Author Guidelines

Paradigmas is a refereed academic journal with research as its area of study and reflection. As such, it publishes reports on scientific, technological and artistic research, presenting not only their progress and results but also focusing primarily on the methodological, epistemological, ethical and/or managerial processes of the project. It also publishes articles about the fields of research and science.

Given the above, the following types of articles are considered appropriate for the magazine:

  1. a) Articles on scientific, technological and artistic research: papers presenting detailed information on the original results of completed research projects, but that focus mainly on the methodological, epistemological, ethical and/or managerial processes of the project. They should be between 10 and 25 pages long 25 (4,000-10,000 words).
  2. b) Articles on advances made in scientific, technological and artistic research: short papers presenting preliminary or partial results of original scientific or technological research, which usually require rapid dissemination. They should be between 4 and 15 pages long (2,000-6,000 words).
  3. c) Articles of reflection (derived from research): papers presenting the results of completed research from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective, focusing on the methodological, epistemological, ethical and/or managerial processes of the project and based on original sources. They should be between 7 and 20 pages long (3,000-8000 words).
  4. d) Articles of reflection and thematic review (not derived from research): papers resulting from the critical review of the literature on a particular topic. They should be between 7 and 15 pages long (3,000-6,000 words).
  5. e) Review article: papers on completed research which analyze, systematize and combine the results of published and unpublished research on the topic of the research itself, describing progress and development trends. They are characterized by a careful literature review and must include at least 50 references. They should be between 10 and 25 pages long (4,000-10,000 words).
  6. f) Book Reviews: they should be not less than 2 and no more than 3 pages long (1,000-1,500 words), and must include complete bibliographic information on the book.
  7. g) Letters to the editor: these can be comments about articles, responses to such comments, or brief discussions on topics of general interest to the research community. They should be between 2 to 3 pages long (1,000-1,500 words).

Preparation of the manuscript

Manuscripts should be submitted with 1.5 spacing (including footnotes) with a 12-point font, and justified margins. They should be submitted on letter size paper with margins of 2 cm on each side, without indentations or headers. All document pages must be numbered. Also, all items (except reviews) should attach an abstract of not more than 150 words and three to six key words. The abstract should present the paper’s purpose, methods and conclusions, and be self-standing. Moreover, it should specify: the type of article submitted, the name of the research project it derived from, and the funding sources or support (if applicable). Only unpublished articles will be accepted, which also means that they are not being submitted for publication at the same time to any other media.

Use of language. While the depth and scope of the article will depend on the author, given the multidisciplinary nature of the audience of the magazine the language used should be comprehensible to the non-expert reader. Therefore, specialized or technical terms must be followed by a simple definition in parentheses or in a footnote. Since the text is written in Spanish, except in exceptional cases, the entire presentation, notation, and use of signs must conform to the standards of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language and not those of other languages.

To the extent possible, avoid using acronyms, even if they are in common use. When the author considers them absolutely necessary, the first time they are mentioned they should be clarified and, if necessary, translated.

Notes and references. The footnotes should be used for the purpose of clarification, indicated by Arabic numbers, and always placed after the punctuation mark, if any. The reference list should only include those sources that have been previously cited in the body of the text, following the APA standards (6th edition, 2010. See tutorial in English). We recommend including the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of the references when available. To determine this, you can visit the Cross Ref search engine: http://www.crossref.org/guestquery/

Graphic elements. Any graphic elements (tables, figures, photos, etc.) must be submitted in separate files in high-resolution jpg or bmp formats (identified solely by the author's last name followed by the number corresponding to the same item in the text - e.g. pérez1.jpg-). In preparing the graphic elements note that the maximum size allowed in the magazine is 12 x 18 cm. In order to respect copyright laws, only those graphic elements created directly by the author, those for which the author has the rights, those in the public domain or those with free licenses (Creative Commons) may be used. The graphic elements in color will appear as such in their digital version, not in the printed version. Moreover, the author must number and title each and every one of the tables, figures, and photographs used. The graphic elements inserted by the author in the manuscript will only be used to measure the size of the document and as a guide for the publishers, but this does not mean that they will appear as sent by the author since their location can be modified during the diagramming process.

Complex mathematical expressions and equations must be done using a formula editor (e.g. MathType™ or Word Equation Editor™).

Copyright. Copyrights are not assigned or transferred to the magazine, but it is understood that the magazine obtains the exclusive right to print and publish. Furthermore, any violation of copyright (by plagiarism or by delivering a document by more authors as a single author, etc.) is the sole responsibility of the infringer and not that of the magazine. If any of the above breaches are established, the author will be irrevocably banned. For more information on the subject, the author may request a copy of the document Manejo de Propiedad Intelectual (Intellectual Property Guide).

Procedure for referral, evaluation and publication

Paradigmas uses a referral and digital assessment system and, consequently, the manuscripts and summary resume of the author or authors (with contact information, most recent academic degree, address, and the institution they represent) should be sent in Microsoft™ Word format by email to [email protected] or [email protected]. Manuscripts received will not be returned.
